## Modeling Complex Systems with Big Data

Complex systems are not amenable to analysis using traditional statistics. The language complex systems speak is the language of statistical mechanics. Statistical Mechanics is a probabilistic approach to equilibrium properties of large numbers of degrees of freedom. It is a branch of physics that applies probability theory to the study of the dynamic behavior of systems composed of a large number of particles. Statistical mechanics provides a framework for relating the microscopic properties of departments in a company to the macroscopic bulk properties of the market, allowing for the characterisation of complex dynamic interactions both in space and time.

Suppose you have measured a set of macroscopic variables for an isolated system. You now know which macrostate it is in, but there may be a huge number of microstates all consistent with that macrostate. What can you say about which one of those it is most likely to be in?

The answer, of course, is that you have no idea. Your measurements do not provide any further information to answer that question. Nonetheless, to calculate any averages or other statistical quantities you must assume something.

**Analygen DSS** is Laryss' reponse to tackle the problem of analyzing your company and provide answers to those questions.
